Is Skydiving Safe?

Skydiving is an extreme sport which requires careful training and execution. Failure to follow your training can lead to injury or death. Modern skydiving equipment is highly reliable and when used properly, is safer than most other extreme sports.

Skydive Phoenix Inc is a member of the United States Parachute Association and all of our instructors are USPA certified.

How fast will I fall?

After exiting the aircraft, you freefall face to earth at 120 m.p.h. for around 55-60 seconds. The main parachute billows open at 5000'.

Are there any age, height, or weight restrictions?

To make a Tandem Jump you must be at least 18 years old and weigh no more than 230 lbs. There are no height restrictions (special restrictions over 230lbs, please call).

A great thing about tandem skydiving is that almost everyone can do it, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities are welcome to jump with us.

How hard is the landing?

Most landings are quite soft, with many people doing nice stand-up landings. Sometimes, especially on calm days, the forward speed of the parachute will provide you with a "sliding" landing through the grass.

Can I tandem jump if I weigh more than 220 pounds?

Yes, but you must contact us ahead of time to discuss specific restrictions.

How long will it take?

The Tandem jump can be completed in as little as 2 hours, but allow extra time for inclement weather or other variables.

For AFF I jumps, plan on being at the drop zone all day.

What should I wear?

Your Tandem Jump is made in street clothes and tennis shoes, we supply a jumpsuit and goggles. Dress comfortably, shorts and T-shirts in the summer and sweats in the winter.

Bring snug fitting gloves in the winter, if you have them. While it is colder in freefall than on the ground, most people don't notice, because they are having so much fun skydiving.

Do you offer static line jumps?

Yes, the cost is $169.

What if my parachute doesn't open?

As per FAA regulations, "All persons intending to exit an aircraft in flight must be equipped with two parachutes..." If you are doing a tandem jump, your instructor will use the second parachute. If you are doing AFF, you will use the second parachute. The possibility of your second parachute not opening is only slightly higher than the likelihood of your steering wheel falling into your lap while driving to the drop zone.

We maintain state-of-the-art tandem and student gear equipped with AAD's (Automatic Activation Device) which activates your reserve if you are still in freefall at a certain altitude.

Can I go solo my first jump?

Yes, the Accelerated Frefall Program (AFF) or Static Line are both solo jumps. Tandem jumps are highly encouraged as a first-jump option.

Can my group be on the same plane together?

Yes, in most cases. Please contact us in advance so we can arrange your group skydiving experience.

How do I make an appointment to skydive?

Contact us) or calling 480-557-5867 (JUMP).
The information we will need is name, number in your party, contact phone number, the date and time you desire as well as a credit card number with billing address to hold your reservation. You can make an reservation for any date that we are open ,weekends from 8:00 am to 4P.M. and only by reservation during the week. Appointments can be made every hour on the hour.

How long does it take to learn how to skydive?

For a tandem skydive, there is very little instruction because you will be connected to an expert instructor who will perform most of the actions for your jump. A tandem jump can take up to two hours.

Accelerated Freefall classes last 6 to 8 hours so plan on being at the drop zone all day. Most AFF students jump the same day.

To become a licensed skydiver takes a minimum of 25 jumps, which is usually accomplished in 10 to 14 days of jumping.

Do I need to make reservations to skydive?

Reservations are necessary. We require a $50 non-refundable deposit per person by Visa or MasterCard over the phone. You can also make your deposit by clicking the link below (coming soon).
